Rizz means charm: the ability to flirt well and get someone interested. It comes from the middle of "charisma". Someone with rizz is smooth. Someone with "no rizz" says the wrong thing at the right moment. Oxford University Press named it Word of the Year 2023, announced on 4 December 2023.
Examples of rizz
- "He's got rizz": he can talk to anyone and they enjoy it.
- "W rizz" is a win, "L rizz" a loss.
- "Rizz up" means to flirt with someone on purpose.
- "Unspoken rizz": being attractive without saying much.
Rizz vs. just being nice
Being nice is about the other person. Rizz is about the effect. You can have the most rizz in the room and still be a bad partner: rizz gets you the date and does nothing for what comes after. A red flag can hide behind a good first impression the same way.
Can you learn rizz?
Partly. Eye contact, real questions and not panicking over a slow reply cover most of it. The rest is confidence, which most people fake until it holds.
Rizz, on a shirt
Some people can charm a whole table and then reach for the bill very slowly. This one is for them: Emotionally Available. Financially Not. Black on top, the catch in red underneath, printed on the back.
€38, oversized fit, sizes S to 5XL, printed to order in the EU.
For rizz that lives entirely in the chat: Bad in Bed. Great at Texting.
